Boy Interrupted- I Kissed a Boy

Artist name:
After Liam's cracking idea of 'Boy Interrupted' and his reasoning for this, I thought i would jsut post some info to clarify it.....
Girl, Interrupted is a best-selling[1] 1993 memoir by American author Susanna Kaysen. In the book, Kaysen relates her experiences as a patient in a psychiatric hospital in the 1960s after being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. The memoir's title is a reference to the Vermeer painting Girl Interrupted at her Music[2].
The plot of Girl, Interrupted does not follow a linear storyline, but instead the author provides personal stories through a series of non-chronological vignettes and personal reflections on why she was institutionalized.
In April 1967, 18-year-old Susanna Kaysen is admitted to McLean Hospital, in Belmont, Massachusetts, after attempting a half hearted suicide. She denies it was a suicide attempt to a psychiatrist who suggests she take time to regroup in McLean, a private mental hospital. Susanna is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and her stay extends 18 months[5].
The film is rated R by the MPAA, for strong language and content relating to drugs, sexuality, and suicide.
Themes:
- mental illness vs. conformity
- hospitalization as treatment
- treating the brain vs. the mind
- freedom

meeting: 22/9/08
group meeting today:
after looking at the captured footage today. it is apparent that we need to sort out a few things in the editing suite as a group.
- we should do a complete edit of the footage we have and see what we have and what we still need.
- we should look at what gestures and action codes liam did so well on the test shoot, and make sur we put these on the reshoot list for next weekends shoot!
i expect to see you all 2moro in the media block!

Location
The group have decided we'll shoot at my house, as it is bigger and should allow more creativity with the camera work and angles etc.

Performance style:
In terms of personailty and visuals we want to add layers of meaning. ALso his insecurity, instability/ split personality as a character cries out for a mixture and dramatisation of emotions. I think this video really helps to show the performance style whihc i feel would really turn out project into a masterpiece :)
note:
- look at the excitement/ bouncing around the place
- look at how powerful he connotes his emotions through his pronounciation
- EYES!!
- action code of headbanging really works though i think it is overused in this video.
- the gritty progression of the main artist. -sweatiness, scruffiness-
- general abstract and awkward behaviour. -his self paranoia as well as aggression (looks almost drug induced)
- effect of static camera and use of fast tracks to the artist.

Weekend shoot
so guys about this weeekend...
- we are shooting at my house. Arrive at 10am to start shooting at 10.20ish.
- remember we will have to clear the room and get the right M/E/S for the test shoot so the earlier you arrive the quicker we can get this show on the road.
- remember to bring the equipment you are responsible of
- max bring those tatoo arms if you can
- keep your mobiles on etc. so we can communicate easily if there is a change of plan
- a note to all of us including myself: the less we mess around and try exciting shots and M/E/S on this test shoot weekend the more accurate our perception of the progress we need to take in preparation for the main shoot!!!

Tattoos:
Going with the image of our artist i think our idea of tattooing will really work. Not only does this give the artist character and charisma outside of his music (i..e. what made him get this tatoo? what does it mean to him? does he follow a faith? etc.) Also it is highly generic to 'alternative rock'!!!! This would make our artist appear more tradiitional rock influenced as a pose to the mainstream tame artists (care about their image- feminine in this sense etc).
Tribal styles:

Large Back pieces:
(red dragon^)

We will have to discuss this at the next meeting, and also play around to see what looks best on the artist for example before/at the test shoot!Posted by LATYMERMEDIA at 2:29 AM 0 comments

FOTC: Proposal
Flight of the Conchords- Inner city pressure (2008 album ‘Flight of the Conchords’)
-Further initial idea:
Breakdown of the song into a current music video:
-An old granny or an imposter old granny- similar to Basement Jaxx video…
- Walls closing in on the main character similar Train spotting?
- Idea that an old granny can’t cope with the expensive lifestyle that comes with living in the inner city. – For example she is in a terraced house and is rather small and dingy. She has spent all of her benefits and pension on buying a brand new motorised buggy which is completely pimped up- pink with tassels etc.
- ‘You pawned everything’…. Shots of handing over goods to a shop keeping: Granny brushes her tongue then hands over the toothbrush; jar with false teeth inside and splashes water over the counter; disposable camera sticky taped to a phone and she takes a picture of under her long old dress before handing it over. Hahahaha.
- ‘don’t know where your going’ – she crosses the road in a wheelchair/ motorised buggy and realises her false teeth are missing and does a U-turn
- ‘standing in the sitting room’ – knitting, ironing, trying to sit on ironing board which is too high,
- ‘Counting coins…’- she counts the coins in her purse and realises she is going to have to steal because she is skint. This is similar to an advert which I have seen …
… the shopkeeper starts to chase her with a French stick. - ‘underpants bit’- she can’t find any underpants in her drawer so she goes to the drawer below which is empty with only 1 pair!- a luminous thong or French knickers
- ‘Have you paid your rent yet’- starts to consider using those pants, implying prostitution.
- Chorus can be shots of her indoors looking out of the windows with the singers appearing as silhouettes through the window. –straight cuts
- ‘har-har-har-har-har’ – she is on her buggy down the street with passers by making eye contact and ‘har’ing’ and possibly pointing, then the last HARRR she stands up from her buggy like she is elevated from her chair-good angles needed etc.
- ‘So you think maybe you’ll be a prostitute…’- she is standing at the front door with an unattractive male at the door- she is trying to woo him.
- ‘Doesn’t measure up’- she is repulsive and they end up sitting on the floor or something.
- Synthesizers- shots of the artists playing their instruments and possibly the granny joining in with a kiddie’s keyboard on top of her ironing board.
- Last shots?

5ive propsal
Liam/ Kieran:
In terms of this band member he appears to be the street casual normal guy.
Matthew/ Reece:
In terms of the band he can be the cheeky smiley one.
James/ Jamie/RJ:
As a band member he is the kind of surfer dude who lives the rural/coastal laid back lifestyle.
Michael/ Mikey:
And here is the poser of the band who is really trending and individual.
- Although these people appear to have and would appeal to different tastes it is very plausible that they are close friends and are a truely constructed band (not manufactured).

Move It Move It idea
- everyone wakes up, the wind styles one of the chartacters hair, whilst another takes the pillow off his head and he has a mohawk.
- one of the characters, wearing a pair of old fashioned pilot's goggles gets on a large bike, which miraculously turns into a small pink child's bike with stabilisers. This bike then fall apart as the guy is riding it, and he throws it over a wall in disgust.
- there is a paperboy cycling along with his bag of papers, he throws one of them, and one of the boyband run
s up and catches it in his mouth like a dog (shot in slow-mo) - one of the characters is dressed like a powerwalker(see left). He looks at his watch, which has been drawn on, and sees a unhappy face instead of a regular clockface. Then we see how slow he is walking, when an old granny overtakes him, followed by a person in a snail suit also crawling past him.
- A woman is being mugged, one of the band members sees this and takes out a can of spinnach. he eats it in a similar way to popeye and goes and beats up the mugger, saving the day for everyone.
- Two of the characters are in a car riding along side a milkfloat.the pasanger reaches across and steals a pint of milk. He then pours it into a box of crunchy nut and eats it
- As one of the characters runs past a church, gospel singers start singing and clapping along to the song
- We see a marathon running rnning along and then reaching for a cup of water placed on a table near the side of the road. He drinks some of the water and then pours the rest over himself to cool down. The band member is then running along and instead of reaching for the water like we expect, he reaches for a bucket of kfc and then pours it over himself.

5ive proposal: Band Branding
BAND BRANDING:
- Here i have created the potential band members of our proposal as WeeMee characters. They each have a unique, virbant look to attract different members of the target audience.
- One thing i have done is given them all the same belt as i thought possibly our band could bring out a belt of their own as merchandise for the marketing and future success of our band.
- Originally i thought of the three characters furthest right as this is the main idea i had for the look of the band. However conventionally there is a more ragged bandmember who gets lots of press. Therefore i created this more urban down to earth looking male- seen furthest left. I think this widens the potential core audience.
- With the name and logo i think EN3 stands out more to the audience and the fact it is a postcode (mine lol) doesn't devalue the fact that is could be an iconic symbol for the band. In particular the font i have chose helps to put emphasis on this symmetrical symbol.
- More than this i can imagine this logo on the band members' belt buckles.

5ive: Location Reccie
This was a success lasting until about 6pm. We went to Covent Garden and around Oxford Street. We were impressed with the hustle and bustle seen at both places and are planning to go to a few more locations in particular Trafalgar square. Oxford Street and surrounding roads and alleyways would provide a good lively atmosphere and lots of opportunities for dressing and running through shots. His would however be problematic with the sheer level of tourism and attraction to the shops. However Covent Garden was much more impressive with a variety of quieter streets, lots of unusual shops, small market stalls, different ground levels and a fairly good performance area, as seen in the pictures and video captions below: Here is our day in motion....
Note: all of these locations are within a 5minute walk of each other which is important for our actual shooting sessions.
Market stalls section which would provide opportunity for grabbing props/costumes on the way to the performance:
In-out of little shops:

The idea of grabbing props on the way to our performance:
